The painting, titled Le Vase Paillé (The Straw Vase) by Paul Cézanne, is a still life composition that depicts a collection of fruits arranged on a table, alongside a vase and a bottle. The dominant colors are earthy tones, with shades of green, yellow, orange, and brown in the fruits, and darker, muted tones in the background and the vessels.
The foreground is occupied by a white tablecloth, folded and draped over a wooden table. The fabric is rendered with thick brushstrokes, suggesting its texture and weight. Resting on and around the cloth are various fruits, including apples and pears, characterized by their rounded forms and vibrant, though somewhat subdued, colors. Some fruits are tinged with red and yellow, while others are predominantly green.
To the left, a ceramic vase with a distinctly patterned surface – a diamond-like motif in blue and yellow – stands prominently. It has a curved, golden handle arching over its opening. Beside it, or perhaps behind, is a tall, slender bottle, rendered in a muted grey-green hue, its form elongated and leaning slightly. The background is dark and textured, with abstract shapes and painterly strokes that create a sense of depth and atmosphere without being representational.
