An evening in memory of Konstantin Korovin in the Tretyakov Gallery

May 31 in the Tretyakov Gallery hosted an evening in memory of Konstantin Korovin, whose work affected not only the development of painting, but also theatrical affairs. It is difficult to imagine a theater without scenery. Of course, they do not play a key role, but create an enchanting atmosphere that allows viewers not only to forget that they have a stage, but also to see in the scenery that understatement, which sometimes decides everything. His work is full of warmth and lyricism. “Northern Idyll”, “Paper Lanterns”, “Near the Balcony” - on all these canvases one can see a deep understanding of people’s feelings. That is why his scenery was so successful. They did not distract the audience from the actors, but served as a magnificent setting for their game.

The scenery and costume designs of Konstantin Korovin were the adornment of many performances of the early 20th century. “Faust”, “Golden Cockerel”, “Sadko” and many other performances of the Mariinsky, the Bolshoi Theater, as well as the Italian La Scala.

During the evening dedicated to the theatrical heritage of Korovin, the story of the creation of the scenery for the opera Golden Cockerel, created by the inspiration of N. A. Rimsky-Korsakov, was told. The artist’s demonstration was accompanied by exquisite music from other operas by the outstanding composer - May Night, Sadko. Also sounded old romances, keeping the memory of how people saw the world at the beginning of the twentieth century.
