Opening of the Ernst Unknown Museum:
personal appeal of the governor

The Governor of the Sverdlovsk Region Yevgeny Kuyvashev personally sent a letter to the outstanding artist and sculptor, State Prize laureate, honorary member of the Russian Academy of Arts Ernst Neizvestny with the initiative to create a museum of his name and politely asked for exhibits to create the first exhibition. Earlier, the national artist of Russia Vitaly Volovich spoke on behalf of the cultural community of Yekaterinburg with the initiative to open the Museum of the Unknown. This initiative was supported by the governor of the region, and, according to Kuyvashev, “The issue has already been resolved.” The museum building will be located in the historical center of Yekaterinburg on Dobrolyubov Street.

As the head of the region noted, the idea of creating the museum was preceded by a successful exhibition of the Unknown, held in Yekaterinburg in the spring of 2012. In his letter, the governor praised the work of Ernst Iosifovich and called him "a brilliant creator, a great man, a citizen of the world."

Some artists and collectors of the Urals have already expressed their willingness to transfer to the museum fund the creative works of the great artist.

Ernst Iosifovich Unknown was born 04/09/1925 in Sverdlovsk in the family of a former white officer. His parents were repressed in the 1930s. The most famous works of the Soviet period are “Lotus Flower” on the Aswan Dam in Egypt and “Prometheus” in the Artek pioneer camp. He has been awarded many state awards.
