The memory of the distant war - 1812 in the Russian Museum

The year 1812 was a real test of strength for the Russian Empire. During the year, battles with the army of Napoleon were fought on the territory of the country. Fierce battles demanded from the nobility and ordinary people the manifestation of the best, heroic qualities. Only a passionate love for their land helped turn the tide of the French army, warming our soldiers from the inside during hard winter days.

Therefore, the exhibition, which opened in the Russian Museum on July 11 and dedicated to the great, albeit long-standing, victory remains very relevant. Times are changing, as are battlefields. The main thing remains. The works of artists of the 19th century testify to what helped the Russian army to win. Picturesque portraits of O.A. Kiprensky, demonstrating the best mental and physical qualities of commanders and ordinary soldiers.

However, the exposition allows you to get acquainted not only with portraits of such great figures as Davydova, Kutuzova or Barclay de Tolly, but also with numerous cartoons on the behavior of both armies made by I.I. Terebenev, A.G. Venetsianov. And, of course, a special place was given to the unique bas-reliefs of Fedor Tolstoy. All these testimonies of a distant victory cannot but inspire! And they will be very interesting to all history buffs. Thanks to him, the events of the war of two centuries ago come to life and again amaze us with their splendor!
