The "John Cage Experiments" exhibition opened in Moscow

On November 22, the NCCA Moscow Center for Contemporary Art hosted the opening of an exhibition dedicated to the influence of the famous American composer John Cage on the creative elite of many countries. His musical experiments, searches for new forms of musical expression, talented attempts to weave into the music the Buddhist principle of "non-action" and everyday noise, had a huge impact on his era. The composer’s 100th anniversary is celebrated all over the world, since almost every artist, photographer, writer of the mid-twentieth century experienced his influence.

An exhibition dedicated to its influence on post-war artists takes place at the Ekaterina Cultural Foundation. Its main theme was the “performativity” beloved by the composer, which denotes the method of random actions, which nevertheless are subject to seriality and are quite logical if we consider them in the context of the whole plot.

The central work of the exposition was the work of Cage’s associate, the artist Marcel Duchamp. His famous “Big Glass” even today causes the audience acute feelings, emotions and makes you think about the technique, manner and meaning of the picture.

The exhibition deadline is scheduled for January 20, 2013. Visitors will be able to familiarize themselves with the most interesting works of Russian and Western artists, formed under the influence of John Cage and who were able to transform their work with the help of his music.
