The opening of the Russian Museum of Design

November 29 in Moscow opened the first museum in the country dedicated to design. The first exhibition of the museum was an exposition dedicated to Soviet design. Its time frame covers the period from 1950 to 1980. At this time, a special style of arts and crafts, as well as industrial and graphic design, was formed.

The exposition consists of several sections devoted to the material culture and life of Soviet citizens. For the older generation, the exhibition will be interesting with the opportunity to “go back in time” and remember how their parents and they lived. Young people get a chance to understand what their mothers, fathers, grandparents are nostalgic for.

The items of the "Great Era" can be seen until January 20, 2013. The design does not end with the framework of an apartment or house, it manifests itself in sports, personal leisure, industrial production. So without such an excursion in history, it is difficult to understand the development of Russian and world design.

The new museum plans to update its exposition every two months in order to have time to show at least 6 various design trends to the public during the year. It is located in the basement of the exhibition center "Manege". They plan to make this space a meeting place for public and designers, and organized exhibitions will cover various areas of world design. Moreover, at the end of the exhibition, the public will have the opportunity to watch its interactive review.
