Unknown Muscovites work Bryullov from the Russian Museum at an exhibition in the Pushkin Museum

MOSCOW. The Pushkin Museum. From February 26, Pushkin opens for visitors an exhibition of graphic works by the famous Russian painter Karl Bryullov. The name of the exhibition contains the words "Famous and Unknown…". This is fully consistent with its content, since the exhibition displays not only works familiar to Moscow viewers, but also graphic works provided by the Russian Museum.

A series of graphics consisting of 14 watercolors and sepia works depict Italian sitters dressed in national costumes. The “Italian album”, which included a total of 33 graphic sheets, became the main “highlight” of this exhibition. Moscow public these works were not yet familiar.

The Russian Museum received them from a private collector, and in order to finally confirm that the authorship really belongs to Bryullov, the works were carefully examined by collectors. It was found that the paper on which the drawings were made corresponds to the time when Bryullov lived in Italy.

Moreover, the paper on which one of the drawings is written is identical to the letters of Bryullov sent from the Italian trip. Some negligence of these works is explained by the fact that these were sketches for future works. They were made to fix movements and gestures.

For the first time, within the framework of one exposition, genre scenes are presented that make up a cycle of masterfully executed watercolors, united by one theme - dreams. Filled with soft irony, watercolors show that the nun has dreams, which dreams a young girl visits before dawn, and which her grandmother and granddaughter visit.

It is possible that collectors still have many unknown works by Karl Bryullov, but for now, until May 15, you can visit this exhibition.
