Art Museum of Irkutsk acquaints citizens with the art of Japan

IRKUTSK. Thanks to the educational activities of the Japanese Institute of Culture, located in Moscow, the residents of Irkutsk got the opportunity, without leaving their hometown, to come closer to understanding the work of artists of modern Japan.

At the Sukachev Art Museum, visitors began to receive visitors from the newly opened exhibition, Contemporary Japanese Graphics. All the artists who submitted their works for the exhibition are united in the Printsaurus association, created to unite artists who choose to perform graphic works in various techniques and styles.

The founder of this association was the famous Japanese graphic artist Hiroaki Miyayama. Residents of Irkutsk are already familiar with the work of this talented master. Last August, an exhibition of works by Hiroaki Miyayama was held in Irkutsk, where the artist introduced guests to colored etchings illustrating the old Japanese novel The Tale of Genji.

The opening exhibition will be available until April 14, introducing fans of Japanese painting to the works of eleven artists, whose 66 sheets of graphic works made using a variety of techniques are noted for their amazing skill and subtlety of subjects. The works of the oldest member of the association, Professor Tadayoshi Nakabayashi, are represented by etchings of deep etching.

Part of the exhibition’s exposition consists of works performed by artists using the most traditional xylography technique for Japan, with etchings for which the most complicated combined technique was applied. It simultaneously uses lithography and callography. The color etchings that presented Hiroaki Miyayama’s work are unique in execution, up to seven boards can be used for printing them.
