Residents of Samara will see the work of Filonov and Malevich from the collection of the Russian Museum

SAMARA. Gallery "Victoria" invites citizens to visit the exhibition "Art. Power. Love ”, created jointly with the Russian Museum. The exhibition presents the works of artists who worked in the 20-30 years of the last century. If we consider these years as the period of the emergence of modern art, then the decade represented in the works of artists was the time when artists representing “leftist art” and just emerging socialist realism spoke on equal terms for the right to call their work “revolutionary art”.

For one artistic movement, representatives of which Malevich and Filonov were, it was work with color and form, and for another, represented by the artists Samokhvalov and Deineka, there were attempts to portray new heroes and the spirit of a new life. The exhibition also presents the works of many famous authors whose paintings were painted in the same period of time.

The exhibition’s exposition includes one of the most famous works written by Filonov - “Narva Gate”, the plot of which tells about the sorcerer living at the Narva Gate. This is one of the famous St. Petersburg myths. Presented at the exhibition is the painting “Drummers”, which shows Filonov’s students. Malevich’s works were presented by “Landscape with Five Windows”, executed in an unconventional manner for the artist.

At the opening of the exhibition was attended by the director of the Russian Museum, Vladimir Gusev. In his speech, he noted that the exhibition shows the period of the formation of Soviet art, when the authorities did not yet consider it necessary to intervene in the course of the art process. Later, she took on the functions that allowed her to decide what to develop in art and what to prohibit.
