"Only Italy!" - architectural drawing in the halls of the Tretyakov Gallery

MOSCOW. In the halls of the Tretyakov Gallery, located in the Engineering Building of the Museum, visitors are interested in the history of architectural drawing until July 27th. Although most of the drawings that made up the exhibition are from Italian artists, the works of our compatriots are also represented.

Since the birthplace of this genre is Italy, where in the 18th century the concept of “architectural drawing” became a separate type of graphic art, the exhibition was presented under the name “Only Italy!” However, among two hundred works by artists who have worked from the 18th century to the present day, there are works by Italian, French and Russian artists.

The exposition of the exhibition was placed in three rooms, in each of which there are works relating to certain periods of the development of the architectural drawing genre. Their study provides an opportunity to see how the perception of Italian architecture has changed over time among artists.

The first room presents the legacy of artists who worked in the 18th century. Here are the works of authors from Italy and France, representing "architectural fantasies" on the theme of ancient cultural monuments.

In the next room are the works of masters of the 19-20th century. Among them are a large number of works devoted to Venice. The city attracted the attention of such famous artists as Benoit, Surikov, Vrubel. Next to them are the works of our contemporaries - Sergey Choban, Maxim Atayants and Sergey Kuznetsov, the chief architect of the capital.

The third part of the exhibition presents the work of Italian artists and architects - works made in Russia. The visitors are most interested in the views of the village of Kolomenskoye and the Moscow Kremlin by the artist Giacomo Quarenghi.
