An exhibition of masterpieces by Venetian masters of the 18th century opened at the Pushkin Museum

July 24 at the Pushkin Museum. A.S. Pushkin opened to visitors exhibition "From Tiepolo to Canaletto and Guardi" - The work of outstanding Venetian masters of the XVIII century. The exhibition presents 57 works, including 23 works from the Palazzo Chiericati, 25 works from the Pushkin Museum im. A.S. Pushkin, 9 works from Italian Galleries - Palazzo Leoni Montanari. According to curator Victoria Markova, this exhibition is the first experience of the equivalent combination of Russian and Italian collections.

Works from these collections, which have long won world fame, are first shown together in a single space, which will allow viewers to get a more complete picture of the variety of Rococo Venetian paintings. In the exhibition you can see the works of such important Italian artists as Giovanni Battista (Jambattista) Tiepolo, Giovanni Battista (Jambattista) Pittoni, Luca Carlevaris, Giovanni Battista (Jambattista) Piazzetta, Giovanni Antonio Canaletto, Francesco Guardi, Pietro Longhi.

The exhibition is located in the main building of the museum and will be open until October 14, 2018. Immediately after exhibiting in Moscow, the exhibition will go to Vicenza. For Italian art lovers, the landscapes of Venice (the so-called Veduts) by Canaletto from the collection of the Pushkin Museum will be a discovery. The fact is that in the XVIII century the Venetians themselves did not appreciate such paintings, because for them it was part of everyday life. Such landscapes were mainly bought by foreigners, and Italians realized their value much later.

Last year it was a Renaissance, and the exhibition was built around its main figures in Venice - Titian, Tintoretto and Veronese. This year, Venetian Rococo painting is presented, a panorama of the XVIII century - from Tiepolo to Canaletto and Guardi. We have combined two collections that are dedicated to the same topic and are located in different parts of the world. They complement and enrich each other, show a powerful and important section of the history of art. ”
