Summary of Chekhov’s story "A Lady with a Dog"

The main character of this story is Dmitry Gurov. He started a family in his early youth. The man did not like her husband. The children were a burden to him.

Our hero took every opportunity to start a novel. Having gone to rest in Yalta, Dmitry met a woman there. She walked along the shore with her dog. Her name was Anna.

The man immediately realized that this lady is from high society. During a conversation with Anna, he found out that she had a husband. She was distinguished by isolation and did not want to get acquainted with any of those around her. She seemed to Dmitry “some kind of miserable”.

A few days later, he and Anna converge very close. The man noted to himself how much she differs from those ladies with whom he had ever had to communicate.

Anna was embarrassed after a night of love. She began to fear that Dmitry would lose all respect for her. Anna began to consider herself bad. She told Gurov that she had not betrayed her husband, but herself. After all, she never had any feelings for her life partner.

It takes some time. Dmitry and Anna continue to meet. A man often tells a lady that she is very beautiful. She does not leave the idea that the beloved person, most likely, has ceased to respect her. Then Anna was forced to say goodbye to Dmitry. It seemed to both of them that they would never meet again.

Arriving in Moscow, the man began to lead his former lifestyle. He is constantly invited to the evenings. He constantly goes to clubs.

However, the Yalta novel does not go out of his head. Dmitry often dreams of Anna. When he sees a crowd of people, then on a subconscious level he tries to find her beloved woman.

A man does not even have anyone to tell about everything that has accumulated in his soul. Life partner began to unnerve him even more.

After some time, our hero decides to go to the city where his beloved woman lives. He told his wife that he was going to Petersburg.

Dmitry began to walk around Anna’s house. Then he came to the conclusion that the most optimal option would be a “random” meeting in the theater.

When Anna saw him at intermission, she immediately wanted to run out of the hall. After all, she was very confused.

After lovers collided in the hallway. The woman told him that she still loved him, but it would be better if he left for Moscow. In the end, she promised to visit him.

Every couple of months, Anna visits her lover in Moscow. She tells her husband that she goes to the doctor.

Lovers suffer greatly due to the fact that they can not be together, but still hope for a happy future.
