Scotland celebrates the 200th anniversary of Lermontov

EDINBURGH. From October 2 to 5, festive events dedicated to the 200th anniversary of the great Russian poet Mikhail Yuryevich Lermontov will be held at the Holyrood Scottish Castle. The organizer of the holiday is the deputy of the Scottish Parliament Mary Scanlon.

These days, fans of the poet, writers, scholars and literary critics who came to Scotland from many countries around the world will discuss creativity, biography and even the presence of Scottish roots of Mikhail Lermontov. After all, as you know, the Lermontov family comes straight from Scotland.

According to the story back in 1613, someone George Lermont, who was one of the representatives of the clan, served in the Polish army at that time and was captured by the Russians during the capture of the Belaya fortress. Later, among the so-called Belsky Germans, Georg Lermont joined the service of the first Russian Tsar Mikhail Fedorovich Romanov. He converted to Orthodoxy, changed his name to Yuri Andreevich, and became the forefather of the Russian noble family Lermontov. It is not surprising that at the celebrations dedicated to the 200th anniversary of the birth of Lermontov, in addition to researchers of the work of the Russian poet, representatives of the ancient Scottish families Lermont and Lermont will also be present. For them, this event is an invaluable opportunity to understand the genealogy of the genus in more detail.
