"Chaos Perfection" by Vadim Panov, summary

This book is a dystopian futuristic novel written by Vadim Panov in 2010. The story unfolds in a universe where global corporations have supplanted traditional governments, and digital technology and genetic engineering have taken over society. The author conveys the spirit of social catastrophe through the lives of several characters: from hackers and photographers to intelligence officers and religious leaders.

This novel is part of the Enclaves series and concludes its story, being the fifth book in the series. Previously, this series included the novels "Moscow Club," "Guides Ahead," "Bonfires on the Altars," and "Sellers of the Impossible."

Corporate rivalry and digital chaos

The global Enclave system is on the brink of financial and social collapse. Network prophet Forty-Two is spreading the teachings of Nakism and urging the use of the "trinity" — a combination of the "float" processor, the drug "sindin," and specialized nanobots. The prophet’s followers, called Tritons, are launching continuous attacks on the information networks of banking platforms and corporations, destabilizing global communications.

Enclave Security Service President Nick Moratti strives to maintain public order, but faces resistance from the director of the Moscow branch, Maximilian Kaufman, nicknamed "The Dead." Kaufman oversees the construction of the Station — a massive energy facility in the Russian North, built by the Naukom corporation directly above a deep research borehole 20,314 meters deep. The states and Enclaves fear that Kaufman is developing a weapon to seize power on the planet.

The secret project of Gryaznov’s group

Meanwhile, in Moscow, leading antique dealer Kirill Gryaznov and his daughter Patricia are assembling a group of gifted specialists. In the underground bunker of the "Lakri Innovation Bureau," they unite the brilliant mechanic Rustam Lakri, the creator of the new energy, Ganza, and the outstanding burglar Ilya Dementyev, nicknamed "Chaika," who had previously escaped from an African prison.

Kirill convinces the team that Kaufman’s monopoly on new energy must be broken. To do this, they must trigger a controlled malfunction at the Station by creating a powerful energy column above the superdeep borehole. Chaika takes on the task of taking control of the facility’s computer systems. Later, Chaika realizes that the borehole and the Station’s equipment were originally built with their team’s ideas in mind.

A Deadly Secret and a Photographer’s Album

A bacchanalia of digital chaos is accompanied by a wave of violence. The prophet’s assistant, Eva Puma, learns the terrible truth from Dr. Scott, who had been at Mutabor Corporation. The drug "sindin" causes irreversible damage to internal organs, accompanied by a dry cough, and leads to death within two or three years. Eva realizes that she and her loved ones are terminally ill, and that Forty-Two has been hiding this danger from his followers.

Against the backdrop of street unrest in Frankfurt, former drug addict and talented photographer Christian Cook, along with his agent, Jose, receives an offer from a representative of the mysterious Client, Agatha van Swit. For a huge fee, Christian agrees to take 1,000 photographs capturing life in a fading world. This album is titled "Chaos Perfection."

The Struggle for Leadership in Catholic Voodoo

The Archbishop of the Bavarian See, Papa Gesè, experiences a spiritual rebirth after meeting Patricia in the Cathedral of the Thirteen Pantheons. He renounces his former sybaritic life and embraces his duty as a shepherd. Gesè comes into conflict with the abbot of the Temple of Jesus, Loa Aho, who seeks to maintain control of the Confederation of Catholic Voodoo.

Patricia travels to Frankfurt with a rare manuscript — the Book of Urzak. Aho’s men kidnap her and bring her to an abandoned factory to lure Jeze into a trap. Jeze arrives and engages Aho in a duel. In the midst of the fight, Gryaznov’s servant Olovo enters through the roof of the building and kills Aho with a special knife. Jeze becomes the recognized leader of Catholic Voodoo.

The Moscow Riot and the Evacuation of the Temple

In Moscow, a courier’s truck crashes on Arbat Street, carrying contraband "syndin," sparking a massive uprising. Frantic from the lack of drugs, citizens and gangs burn down clubs and storm warehouses. The Boloto district descends into chaos.

Rustam Lakri proposes to Matilda, Mama Dasha’s niece. During street fighting, Patricia transports Matilda and Mama Dasha out of the fire zone in an armored SUV, while Chaika provides remote fire support from a train. Kaufman opens the industrial zones of Kolyma to refugees, gathering hundreds of thousands. Simultaneously, the leader of the Temple of True Evolution, the Merciful Lord, organizes a covert evacuation of millions of templars from the cities to the Naukom industrial buildings near the Station.

The Death of the Last Temple

Kirill Gryaznov travels to the Pyrenees, home to the ancient Last Temple. Using traditional tools, he chisels away old bas-reliefs and carves 24 new runes into an octagonal stone altar. Kirill is followed into the Temple by General Liao, a senior Chinese intelligence officer.

Kirill explains to the general that the era of the ancient sanctuary has ended. The Altar is transported to the Station, and the Last Temple itself, along with its vanishing walls, dissolves into nothingness, taking Gryaznov and Liao with it. Before this, Gryaznov transfers his authority and plans to Patricia, and Mishenka Shcheglov becomes the Station’s deputy commandant.

Storming the Station and the Patrician Ritual

The combined fleets of China, Europe, India, and the Catholic Voodoo Confederation launch Operation Northern Eagle. Ships and aircraft approach the Barents Sea and attack the Station. Simultaneously, environmentalists from the "Stop Hell!" movement, led by Otto Bromberg and SBA agents, storm the outer barriers.

Inside the Main Power Unit, Patricia stands before an altar brought from the Pyrenees. Eight prelates of the Mutabor Corporation, including Lucius Ming, voluntarily sacrifice themselves, becoming the keys to opening spatial channels. Patricia enters a trance, takes 24 steps through the labyrinth, and receives permission to alter the structure of reality.

Launch of the Energy Lance and new worlds

In the underground computer center, Chaika injects himself with a lethal dose of "syndin" and burns out his own "float" processor. He directly connects his mind to the Station’s information flow, gaining complete control of its systems. Chaika smooths out calculation errors and directs the energy flow.

A gigantic column of pure energy — the Spear — erupts from the altar, piercing the atmosphere and penetrating the planet’s depths. The powerful discharge triggers a planetary catastrophe: earthquakes, tsunamis, and volcanic eruptions rock the planet, and 35 nuclear power plants explode. Over 100 million people die, and the old states and Enclaves collapse.

Eight stable spatial Gates appear beneath the Power Unit’s dome, leading to pristine and uninhabited worlds. The Station’s force shield repels all attacks from the invading forces, and the paratroopers retreat.

The emergence of a new world

Humanity begins settling new planets through the Gate. Patricia leads the colonization of "Mir-1," and Mishenka Shcheglov becomes her faithful assistant. Rustam Lakri grieves over the deaths of millions of people, but remains with Matilda and their unborn child.

Christian Cooke’s photographs are brought together in a single collection, concluding the album "Chaos Perfection." His faithful servant, Olovo, takes the album and departs for a nameless planet with two moons, where he spends the rest of his days in solitude and peace.
