The play "Ideal Husband" staged by Bogomolov surprised the audience

MOSCOW. Held on February 17 the premiere of the play “Ideal Husband” at the Moscow Art Theater. Chekhov, even before his appearance on the stage, became the reason for his discussion not only among the theater public, but also in the press. Spectators who managed to attend pre-premiere performances spoke out ambiguously about it, but the fact that it can be called an event of the season is an indisputable fact.

Director Konstantin Bogomolov has long been familiar to theatergoers with his unusual reading of the literary basis of the performances he posed. This time, his production of “The Ideal Husband” turned into a fantasy using themes from Oscar Wilde, Chekhov, Shakespeare.

It is very difficult to determine the genre of the performance, and the director himself says that it fully complies with the term “trash”, that is, it violates the standard notions of art and is unpredictable. Indeed, from the well-known “Ideal Husband” only the name of the play remains.

Sir Robert at Bogomolov turned into Robert Ternov and became the "Minister of Rubber Products", the Englishman Lord Goring became simply the "Lord", a popular performer of Russian chanson. True, before his name was Kondraty Grave, and his work was far from art - a professional killer. In the role of the minister, the audience saw Alexei Kravchenko, and Igor Mirkubanov became the former killer, who became the real opening of the performance.

Daria Moroz, who became in this role a typical “girl from Rublevka”, turned into the minister’s wife, the beautiful Gertrude, who is actively involved in her husband’s work. Dorian Gray, personifying the supreme power, brilliantly played by Sergei Chonishvili. There are also three provincials with Chekhov’s texts in the play, and Tuzenbach with black glasses.

Although the reviews about the production are mixed, the following performances are already sold out.
