The Sovremennik Theater met the first spectators of the season at the Yauz Palace

MOSCOW, The first day of October was for the collective of the Sovremennik Theater not only the beginning of the anniversary season, but also the first meeting with their fans on a new stage. Now, spectators who want to meet with their favorite artists will not come to the theater building, which has been an adornment of the Chistye Prudy district for many years, but to the Palace on Yauza.

It was this building that became the home for Sovremennik, allocated by the Moscow government during the repair. At a meeting with reporters on the first day of the new season, during the traditional gathering of the troupe, Galina Volchek spoke of a huge sense of gratitude to the metropolitan government felt by the Sovremennik collective. The building, where theater artists will be able to work continuously, will allow Sovremennik to keep its regular audience.

The director emphasized that each new season becomes a difficult test for the theater staff, and moving to a new place is a double challenge. Galina Volchek talked about the complexity of the task, the search for a solution to which was already begun last season - the performances included in the repertoire of Sovremennik need adaptation to show them in a new stage space. This process is planned in the first half of the new season.

The need for reconstruction of the Sovremennik building, where the artists worked without repair for more than forty years, has been discussed for a long time. The long-awaited repair work will begin literally in the coming days. The builders promised that they would cope with them in a year and a half. All this time, the address of the theater will remain unchanged - Zhuravlev Square, Palace on the Yauza. Already on October 11, the artists of Sovremennik will present the first premiere in the new building. The repertoire of the theater will replenish the play “The Decameron” in the reading of the director Kirill Vytoptov.
