Premiere at the Youth Theater on the Fontanka - "Napoleon’s Last Love"

ST. PETERSBURG. Last weekend, the Youth Theater on Fontanka showed the audience a new work by Semyon Spivak - the comedy “Napoleon’s Last Love”. This performance became the stage embodiment of the play by Jiri Gubacz, a Czech playwright.

Russian viewers know his name as the author of films staged in his scripts. Many directors appealed to the plays of the Czech playwright. His works have been successfully staged in several eminent Moscow theaters. They did not remain indifferent to the work of Jiri Gubach in other Russian cities. Plays with a plot that forces the audience not to break away from what is happening on the stage are always popular with the audience.

The performance becomes even more popular, where in addition to an interesting plot, there is a theme of relations that unexpectedly arise between a man and a woman. Semyon Spivak noted that the presence of this eternal theme in the play by Jiri Gubach became the main reason for choosing this comedy for the production.

The author of the play called his work "a sad comedy." Her events take place at a time when Napoleon’s brilliant career ended with a reference to the island of St. Elena. The deprivations of the former emperor are shared by several court generals, together with Napoleon yearning for bygone days, filled with glory and grandeur.

Suddenly, the Paris cook, who had penetrated the shack, ironically bearing the name of Josephine, could not believe that the gentleman, dressed in a well-worn camisole, was the purpose of her visit. She was looking for the emperor to get compensation from him for the death of her husband, who found death in the Battle of Waterloo.

In communication with Josephine, Napoleon begins to understand that the main human value is his soul, but only if it is capable of empathy.
