Kunsthal Museum Security System Familiar to Robbers

Robbers who stole seven paintings from the Kunsthal Museum entered the building through the front door, taking advantage of the security system, according to the New York Times, citing sources in the Dutch police.

According to official figures, on the night of September 15-16, the museum’s alarm system worked flawlessly. The mechanism of its action, obviously, was well known to the kidnappers, so they quickly turned off the electronic lock on the back door. This feature of the museum security system is dictated by fire safety requirements.

After the electronic lock was unlocked, thieves entered the museum. The theft process itself, as can be seen from the recordings from the surveillance cameras, did not take more than two minutes. Recall that the police arrived at the scene five minutes after receiving the alarm. The video, shot on the night of the robbery, in which two masked robbers are clearly visible, is posted on the YouTube service, while a representative of the Dutch police asks everyone who recognizes the criminals to contact the investigating authorities.

The total cost of the stolen is very high, experts agree on a figure of 130 million US dollars. Today, the Kunsthal Museum in Rotterdam is open to visitors, other works of art took the place of stolen paintings on display.
