More than 100 of the best works from the collection of the Albertina Museum in a new grand exhibition

VEIN. A grand exhibition in the heart of historical Vienna - the Albertina Museum, presents to the public all the most valuable treasures of the gallery. The masterpieces of Dürer, Michelangelo and Rubens will be shown together for the first time, illustrating not only the history of art, but also the unusual life story of the creators of the museum - Prince Albrecht, Duke of Saxony and Teshen and Archduke Maria Christina.

A large-scale presentation brings together the most valuable works from the main collection, from Michelangelo, Rembrandt and Rubens to Caspar David Friedrich. Once the masterpieces of the museum visited the Hermitage in St. Petersburg, but the work of the geniuses of world painting did not come to Moscow, although negotiations on such cooperation were underway. The center of the exposition will be Dürer’s famous work “The Young Hare,” re-presented to the public after a ten-year break. The painting was done with such scrupulousness and realism that it could illustrate the scientific literature. She became the hallmark of the artist, demonstrating his accuracy, attentiveness and love for nature and its creations.

The time interval covered by a large-scale exposition is the period from 1738 to 1822: from the time of the exquisite court baroque under Maria Theresa, the Enlightenment under Joseph II, through the pre-modern period and the years of revolution in America and Europe to Biedermeier of the times of Vormärz (time before the revolution of 1848 years in Germany) after the Vienna Congress.

The exhibition also illustrates the geographical locations of the founders of the collection, Prince Albrecht of Saxony, Duke Teschen and Archduke Maria Christina. Among them are Dresden, Rome, Paris, Brussels and Vienna, which have now become the leading centers of art and politics. The paintings and documents presented at the exhibition provide an understanding of the intricate networks of collectors and art dealers, the feudal life of the European aristocracy, as well as the intellectual and political reorientation of the elite of society under the auspices of the Enlightenment.
