President of the Russian Academy of Arts Z.K. Tsereteli created the image of the first mayor of Moscow Tikhon Streshnev

President of the Russian Academy of Arts Zurab Konstantinovich Tsereteli created the image of the first mayor of Moscow, Tikhon Nikitich Streshnev, who held this post in 1709-1711. A round bronze sculpture 3 meters high is temporarily installed in the Museum-Workshop of the famous muralist in Peredelkino.

Tikhon Nikitich was appointed as an uncle to the future Peter I shortly after his birth and subsequently became a confidant of the emperor. In 1697, going to the Great Embassy, Peter I entrusted the administration of the country to Tikhon Streshnev and Prince Fyodor Romodanovsky. In the same year, he received an order from the Grand Palace, which he led until 1709 (this year it was abolished). In 1698, he supervised the rescue of the shrines of the Assumption Cathedral from fire.

During the Northern War, Tikhon Nikitich was engaged in replenishing troops, provisions and collecting money, and from 1703 he supplied the king with doctors and gardeners. When the country was divided into provinces, on February 3, 1709, Tikhon Nikitich Streshnev stood at the head of Moscow. On February 19 (March 2), 1711, with the establishment of the Governing Senate, he became a member of it, and on February 22, 1711, he left the post of Moscow governor.

The creation of a monument to the closest associate of Peter I in the year of the celebration of the 350th anniversary of the birth of the emperor is another evidence of respect and preservation of historical memory. The history of the Russian state is a large-scale topic that Zurab Konstantinovich Tsereteli has been working on throughout his entire career. He created portrait busts of Russian grand dukes, tsars and emperors, based on scientific and historical research, as well as images of the Romanov family, embodied in a round sculpture.
