Rare works of an early period at the exhibition of Mikhail Nesterov in the Vyatka Museum

KIROV. An exhibition dedicated to two anniversaries has opened at the Vyatka Museum of Art. This year marks the 150th anniversary of the Russian artist Mikhail Nesterov and 165th anniversary of Viktor Vasnetsov, one of the brothers whose names the Vyatka Museum was named after.

To create an exposition of the anniversary exhibition of 26 works by Mikhail Nesterov, the Bashkir Art Museum located in Ufa provided the painter. Among the works of Mikhail Nesterov, placed at the exhibition, you can see his early works. There are practically no works of this period of the artist’s life in other museums.

Visitors to the museum will be able to see landscapes, genre compositions and sketches made by Mikhail Nesterov during his work on the painting "Holy Russia" and canvases included in the famous "Sergius cycle". Among the works included in the exhibition, there is also such a famous canvas as “The Resurrection of Lazarus”. The collection delivered for the exhibition from Ufa is supplemented by three canvases from the funds of the Vyatka Museum.

A pleasant surprise for visitors to the opening of the exhibition was the arrival in Kirov of Maria Ivanovna Titova, the granddaughter of the artist. Although by her profession she is not connected with the world of art, and she saw her grandfather only in early childhood, however, according to the memoirs of close people, she collected the whole life story of Mikhail Nesterov.

Maria Ivanovna prepared several books for publication with a biography of the artist, as well as catalogs of his works. In her speech, she talked about the work of her grandfather, about people close to him, as well as the history of some works created by the painter.

The exhibition, created by museum staff, was an excellent gift for the anniversary dates.

The exhibition at the Vyatka Art Museum will be available for visiting until May 10 of next year.
