On the New Stage of the Alexandria Theater, the performance "Macbeth" was read by the Polish director Krzysztof Garbachevsky

ST. PETERSBURG. The premiere of Shakespeare’s play “Macbeth” staged by the famous Polish director Krzysztof Garbachevsky took place on the new stage of “Alexandrinka” on September 25. With this performance, the director completed the trilogy of productions based on Shakespeare’s plays. It was started by the production of Storm in Wroclaw, continued by Hamlet on the stage of the Old Theater in Krakow.

The production of the play "Macbeth" was Gorbachevsky’s debut on the Russian stage. The premiere participates in the festival "Alexandria", now taking place in St. Petersburg. Usually, trained spectators come to watch performances on the New Stage, ready for the unexpected, because this stage space was conceived for the embodiment of directorial experiments.

However, Garbachevsky surprised not only the audience with his work, but also the artists participating in the performance. Actively using modern technical capabilities, experimenting with video, light, sound and computer graphics, it actually destroys the border separating cinema and theater. When Marat Gatsalov, the chief editor of the New Stage, saw the Macbeth run, he was delighted with the director’s work and the actors’ play, calling the performance not just a talented work, but an outstanding production.

The first minutes of the performance, the actors are not on the stage, but behind the curtains. Viewers see them on the screen installed in the hall. The tight metal container where they are located is a metaphor that sends spectators back to the times of totalitarianism, when people were in some kind of enclosed space. There are many such metaphors in the play. The director did not use ready-made solutions invented in advance. Most of the directing techniques were born during rehearsals. “Theater installations” - this is how Krzysztof calls his works.
