The study of early drawings by Alexei Zhibinov in the Irkutsk Art Museum

IRKUTSK. In preparation for the personal exhibition of Alexei Zhibinov (1905−1955) in the art museum. V.P. Sukachev began the study of materials related to the name of this artist from the personal archives of A.D. Fatyanov. Recall that since 1946, for a long time, Alexei Dementievich Fatyanov not only headed the museum, but also actively replenished his collection. He also supported local artists, despite the opinion of critics. One of these authors was Alexei Zhibinov. After the tragic death of the artist, a personal archive, including drawings, sketches, letters, was handed over to his wife by Fatyanov. Years later, from the widow of Aleksey Dementievich, materials were received in the museum archive.

This year it was decided to accompany the personal exhibition of paintings by Alexei Zhibinov with personal letters and drafts. To do this, I had to devote a lot of time to working with the archive. The results were impressive. In particular, in the plywood suitcase, which possibly belonged to the artist himself, there were more than 150 early drawings by Alexei Zhibinov - pencil sketches for his famous canvases, sketches, sketches, portraits of contemporaries. Some drawings are dated. With this in mind, as well as the style of the author, it is safe to say that most of them were made in the 20-30s of the last century.

Now, with these drawings, in addition to the archive manager Yulia Sergeeva, the museum’s research staff also works. It will be established which of them are of artistic value and which are of historical importance. The first will be transferred to the museum funds, the second will remain in the archive.

The general public will be able to see some of these drawings at the solo exhibition of Alexei Zhibinov "Dangling Strings". Its opening is scheduled for November 26, 2015. The viewer will be presented about 70 paintings of the artist, as well as artifacts related to his biography. So, in addition to the drawings, a sketchbook will also be shown, in which both paints and brushes of the master are preserved. Note that at the moment it is the Irkutsk Regional Art Museum. V.P. Sukacheva has the most extensive collection of works by Alexei Zhibinov.

Alexey Petrovich Zhibinov, was born in the village of Kuragino, Yenisei province. From 1921 - 1928 studied at the second-level school in the city of Nizhneudinsk, Irkutsk region. In 1922 - 1926 - Student of the Faculty of Literature of ISU. 1925 - 1929 - years of study at the State Art Studio - workshop by I. L. Kopylov. 1929-1932 - Work in the workshop of the Higher Art Institute in Leningrad with P. N. Filonov. Upon returning to Irkutsk, he was a teacher of painting and drawing at the isopedopedicum. Front-line soldier, participant of the Second World War. His tragic passing away shortly before his fiftieth birthday was provoked by a long harsh criticism of his work and accusations of formalism.
