Victory February of Theodore Currentzis. It’s only the beginning

PERMIAN. Currentzis extended the contract with the Perm Opera and received the Kairos Award.

February turned out to be a very successful month for one of the main newsmakers of the domestic scene of Theodor Currentzis. At the end of winter, it was possible to resolve the conflict with the regional ministry of culture, because of which the troupe of the Perm Opera could remain without an artistic director. A new treaty has been signed that extends the powers of Currentzis for another five years. The issues regarding the reconstruction of the theater and the construction of a new stage were positively resolved.

In February, the Alfred Töpfer Foundation awarded the Kairos Award for outstanding interpretations of classical works. In April, he will go for an honorary award to Hamburg. By spring, it is planned to finish the film about Currentzis. German filmmakers, who visited Perm at the beginning of the month, are working on it.

On February 12, Moscow was able to assess the chances of Perm “Don Giovanni” for the “Golden Mask” in four nominations and hear Simone Alberghini in the title role of the wonderful bass baritone. The singer, who successfully performs at La Scala, Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona, New York’s Metropolitan Opera, without hesitation, responds to offers to participate in another production of Currentzis: in Novosibirsk, Moscow, Perm. The cinema hall of the New Opera received Mozart from the Perm Opera with undisguised pleasure.

The informal “Night with Currentzis” also fit into the busy schedule of the maestro. Classical music recordings, accompanied by his explanations, are truly hypnotic to the chosen audience. This time the main information occasion was the release of two albums with the music of Stravinsky and Tchaikovsky, in the recordings of which the uncontrollably talented Patricia Kopachinskaya and MusicAeterna took part.

Toward the close of the month, soloists of the ballet troupe Nikita Chetverikov and Inna Bilash won the second season of the Bolshoi Ballet television project. They shared the first place with a duet from the Mariinsky and ahead of a strong couple from the Bolshoi Theater in the creative competition. Other theater and artistic director of the above events would be enough for a year. Currentzis is attracted by other speeds. Therefore, the results are so tangible.
