The neighborhood of the two provincial colossi seems strange only at first. Although one of them has clay feet ready to be exposed, the second collects enthusiastic halls. In addition to belonging to the same genre, Ivan Susanin, which began the history of both theaters, is united by their identity, Currentzis. One of the best periods of the Novosibirsk opera is associated with it. Golden masks, the creation of the musicAeterna orchestra, a successful tour in Paris. Moving to Perm, due to various reasons, opened a great era in its opera.

The chronology of events in Novosibirsk resembles a horror film turning into a farce. In Perm, a succession of successes and the birth in front of the inspired audience of one of the best theaters in Europe. While the “Queen of the Indians” of Currentzis celebrated a triumph at the April “Golden Mask”, the last act of the shameful booth “The Expulsion of Tannhäuser from the Temple of the Arts” began in the largest city of Siberia. The performance, which outraged religious leaders, was removed from the repertoire. The case against the director Kulyabin was dismissed only thanks to the strong support of the theater community. Boris Mezdrich, who did not betray the performance and his colleague, was fired from the post of director. Currentzis opposed such a "public execution".

In May Perm, the traditional Diaghilev Festival is held, where thousands of guests come, the music of Mahler and Desyatnikov is played, world premieres are held. At this time, the season suddenly ends in the second theater, and discussions about the prime minister replace news about theft of borrowed funds, bankruptcy and other problems of the new director of the opera.
