"Fatal Attraction" at the Satire Theater - a gift for the upcoming anniversary for the People’s Artist of the USSR Vera Vasilyeva

MOSCOW. Actress Vera Vasilieva will celebrate her anniversary in September, however, she received a birthday present from her home theater of Satire in advance. Such a gift for the People’s Artist of the USSR was the main role in the play "Fatal Attraction", which premiered at the Satire Theater. The play, staged by director Andrei Zhitinkin, is designed specifically for Vera Kuzminichna.

The director designated the genre of the play as “noir” - this term refers to a special genre of cinema art that appeared in America in the early fifties. What is happening on the scene is consistent with the principles of this genre. The play also contains intrigue complexity and stage design using all shades of black.

For the theater of Satire, such a genre of the performance is unusual - in the plays of its repertoire there is usually an ironic or comic beginning. The performance “Fatal Attraction” shows the problems that appear in aging stars of the movie screen. Vera Vasilieva says that an age-based actress can only dream of such a role.

The actress calls the performance staged for her a gift of fate, because this play speaks of age, the momentary nature of art, and love. This is not the first time Vera Vasilieva has worked with Andrei Zhitinkin. In The Queen of Spades staged by Zhitinkin at the Maly Theater, the actress plays the role of an imperious and mysterious countess.

At the premiere of the Satire Theater, Vera Kuzminichna transforms into the Hollywood star Irma Garland. The forgotten aging actress is sure that there are no former stars. Irma is ready in any way to return youth in order to appear again on the movie screens. She is used to paying her whims, so she is ready to pay for this one.

In life, Vera Vasilyeva is absolutely not like her heroine, which makes her on the stage even more interesting.
