CANNES. On May 19, the program of the 37th Moscow International Film Festival (MIFF) was announced as part of the 68th Cannes Film Festival in the Russian Pavilion. According to the statement of the MIFF program director Kirill Razlogov, public relations director Pyotr Shepotinnik and festival program selector Andrei Plakhov, 12 films will take part in the competition program of the festival.
This year, the MIFF has a special date - it marks 80 years since the first film festival, which took place in 1935. However, despite the anniversary, the MIFF, in connection with the crisis, is experiencing difficulties. Instead of 10 traditional days, the festival will last 8 - from June 19 to 26. The competition and non-competition programs have also become shorter. However, Andrei Plakhov believes that such reductions went to the film festival only to the benefit, since now the emphasis will be placed not on the quantity, but on the quality of the participating paintings.
The competition program of the 37th MIFF included such films as “Unlucky” Ivaylo Hristova (Bulgaria), “Let’s Three” by Jerome Bonella (France), “What’s Good”, Milo O (Japan), “Armie Alive!” By Jorn Donner (Finland), “The Road” (Lebanon) Rana Salem, “The Enclave” of Goran Radovanovic (Serbia), “The Sea and the Flying Fish” Mehrdad Ghafarzadeh (Iran), “Heroes of Evil” Soy Berriatua (Spain). Not yet confirmed the participation in the competition of another film - the American film directed by Nick Sandow, "He also wants to live." Also, three Russian films entered the main competition of the film festival at once: “Aventur” by Irina Evteeva, “Orleans” by Andrei Proshkin and “Dear Hans, Dear Peter” by Alexander Mindadze, co-produced by Russia, Great Britain and Germany.
The jury of the 37th MIFF will be led by French film director Jean-Jacques Annot, and his new film, The Last Wolf, will head the movie screening.
In addition to the programs of the main competitions of documentary, fiction and short films, the MIFF will traditionally delight guests with many interesting out-of-competition categories. Among them are the sections “Euphoria” by Andrei Plakhov, “The Female Explosion” by Angelica Artyukh, “8 ½ Films” by Pyotr Shepotinnik, “Around Fassbinder” by Mikhail Ratgauz and “Films That Were Not Here” by Stas Tyrkin.
