During this time, Russian viewers were able to see more than two hundred performances shown by theaters of different countries. 128 Russian groups participated in the Rainbow festival, and there are 88 theaters that arrived at the festival from abroad. Theaters from eight countries brought their works this year. Among them are groups representing European countries, as well as China and Japan.
There are eight Russian participants in the festival. Two theaters - Youth Theater named after Bryantseva and BTK represent St. Petersburg. From Moscow, RAMT and the Mkhatov Training Theater became participants in the festival. The Siberian region is represented by the Perm Youth Theater, Novosibirsk’s “Old House” and the Youth Theater from Chelyabinsk. The Tilsit Theater from the Kaliningrad Region (Sovetsk) was rapidly gaining popularity.
At the opening ceremony of the Rainbow, the first persons of the city, Vyacheslav Makarov (Head of the Legislative Assembly) and Georgy Poltavchenko, Governor of St. Petersburg, greeted the participants in the theater forum. They wished the participants of the festival successful displays of their works, and the audience - new, vivid impressions.
The first performance in the Rainbow program was the work of French directors. The company of Philippe Genti presented the wonderful performance "Do not forget me." This amazingly beautiful production performed by young actors from Norway was enthusiastically received by the public.
The Rainbow Festival runs through June 4th.
