The Bolshoi Theater hosted the premiere of the play "Baptized with Crosses", staged according to the book of the main artist

ST. PETERSBURG. At the end of last week, the premiere of the play “Baptized with Crosses” took place on the Small Stage of the St. Petersburg BDT. The director Veniamin Filshtinsky worked on his production. The literary basis of the play was a book of the same name written by Eduard Kochergin, chief artist of the BDT. Eduard Kochergin became the set designer of the play.

All the events described by the author, now embodied on the BDT stage, took place with Kochergin. Such was the post-war childhood of a teenager, the son of "enemies of the people", who decided to return from Siberia to his native Leningrad. Stepanych - so called his fellow travelers, who met on a long journey to his homeland, which took about seven years.

A teenager escaped from the Siberian NKVD detention center while still very small. All stages of his growing up took place in carriages, where there were many different people traveling with a teenager traveling to his hometown. Among them were former front-line soldiers and homeless punks, thieves and people with disabilities.

Kochergin called his book “Baptized with Crosses” not only because the name is memorable. This phrase is well known to his peers. So in the post-war period they called those who were serving their sentences in the famous prison - “Crosses”. The piercing book, written by Eduard Kochergin, was noticed by literary critics. The result of “Notes on my knees” (the author gave this subtitle to his work) was a prestigious literary award - the National Bestseller Prize.

V. Filshninsky with the BDT artists works on the Small Stage for the second time. In 1986, he presented the play "The Barmaid from the Disco", in which Alice Freindlich played. The young generation of the theater takes part in the new work of the director, including graduates of the BDT trainee group, whose debut took place last season.
