"Fine" art of Ukraine is the pride of the "Mystetsky Arsenal"

KIEV. Kiev is trying to keep up with the cultural capitals of Europe and, with enviable frequency, pleases its citizens with large-scale exhibitions. On February 13, the opening of the 4-year-old FINE ART UKRAINE festival took place at the Mystetskyi Arsenal.

A large-scale exhibition, which runs until February 24, will show Ukrainians the best achievements of contemporary art. Painting, graphics, sculpture, photography… As well as ambitious installations and special projects. All this will be combined into a single educational program that gives visitors a general idea of the development of art in the Soviet period and the first decades of Ukrainian independence.

One of the central projects of the exhibition will be the exhibition “Match Point 88”, which is dedicated to the turning point of “an instant before a new life” in the history and culture of the USSR. Reagan’s policy, Kashpirovsky’s massive hypnosis, the withdrawal of troops from Afghanistan, the first acquaintance of Soviet viewers with soap operas, the collapse of the system and general degradation…

And against this backdrop - the masterpieces of underground culture - the release of the films "Needle" and "Assa", the birth of Russian rock music: "Aquarium", "Cinema", "Time Machine"… Artists who escaped from the captivity of poster painting, creating their the depth, no matter how distorted it may seem to the public and the party - Dmitry Fischenko, Viktor Ryzhikh, Konstantin Reunov, Tatyana Yablonskaya, Galina Neledva, Alexander Roitburd, Tiberius Silvasi, Marco Geiko, Sergey Zhivotkov and many others!

Visitors will be able to get acquainted not only with the works of artists, but also with personal correspondence, photographs of that period, as well as entertaining stories collected firsthand. The exhibition will be interesting to everyone who wants to know how Culture is created and what is behind its official “face”!
