Personal exhibition of Ivan Sorokin dedicated to the Pushkin days

MOSCOW. The opening of the personal exhibition of the national artist Ivan Sorokin in the Exhibition Hall of the Pushkin Museum was not coincidentally timed to coincide with Pushkin Day - most of the works included in the exposition are related to Pushkin places.

The canvases presented at the exhibition depict views of St. Petersburg and the village of Mikhailovsky. Such a poetic "Boldinsky Autumn" could not leave the artist indifferent. Ivan Sorokin returned to the theme of autumn in Boldino more than once, wishing to convey his feelings to the audience.

In total, the exhibition hall housed more than forty works by the artist, written in various genres. Among them are not only the landscape painting so beloved by the artist, but also portraits and still lifes. The life of the Russian province in canvases looks vibrant and poetic. One of the favorite topics presented on the canvases of Ivan Sorokin was fairs and noisy bazaars, festivities.

Next to them are streets of small cities, made in a different, less vivid tone, where the rhythm of life is measured, unhurried. Warm colors of central Russian nature on Sorokin’s canvases are conveyed with unusual lyricism. Landscapes that convey the beauty of the architecture of the Russian North, written on trips to the districts of Novgorod and Pskov, look completely different.

Even in the earliest works of Ivan Sorokin, it is clear that the artist not only displays the world around him, but also conveys his vision of reality. The painter painted in his paintings only what touched his soul. The canvases are bright and festive, filled with light and spaciousness. Many of the artist’s works adorn the collections of famous museums and collections of private collectors.

Some canvases from the artist’s family archive are presented at the exhibition for the first time, you can see them in the exhibition hall of the GMP until July 26th.
