Creativity of the artist Semenov-Amursky at an exhibition in the Museum. Sorokina

LIPETSK. Art Museum. Sorokin (House of the Master) on October 4 opens an exhibition of paintings by the artist Fyodor Semenov-Amursky. The name of this bright and original master is almost unknown to the general public, however, his creative heritage has taken a worthy place in the collections of the country’s most famous museums and private collections of painting. The exhibition in the Master’s House presents 25 works by the artist, delivered to Lipetsk from Voronezh, where they are in the collection of the Museum. Kramskoy.

The creative life of Semenov-Amursky was not easy. Many trials brought the artist his search for creative personality. Initially, everything turned out very successfully. After graduating from an art school in his native Blagoveshchensk, Semenov-Amursky went to Moscow. There he went to study at the famous VKHUTEMAS. Beginning in 1933, the artist became a member of Moscow Artists Union, which gave him the opportunity to take part in the capital’s art exhibitions.

Everything changed in 1946, when Semenov-Amursky was accused by senior colleagues of “formalism”, which caused the closure of exhibition areas for his works. For more than two decades, the artist’s work could be seen only at unofficial shows - the so-called “apartment exhibitions”.

The study of Byzantine and Egyptian art, as well as a thorough study of children’s drawings led the artist to abandon three-dimensional images. This peculiar style became the main difference of his work. The works of Semenov-Amursky attract with their decorativeness, sophistication of color. A bright but mysterious world appears before the audience. Everyone can visit the unique exhibition of works by Semenov-Amursky until October 31.
