Hungarian writer became the winner of the International Booker Prize

LONDON. On May 19, the International Booker Prize for 2015 was presented at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London. The laureate was the 61-year-old Hungarian writer Laszlo Krasnakhorkai. His name was chosen from 10 candidates.

According to the jury, Krasnakhorkai received the award for the combination of his works - the novels “Satanic Tango”, “Si-van-mu is here among us” and “Melancholy of resistance”. The jury agreed that the author is inclined to create "magnificent works of deep imagination and complex passions." The chairman of the jury, Marina Warner, noted that Laszlo is capable of creating scenes that are "scary, terribly comical and often devastatingly beautiful."

Recall that the International Booker Prize is awarded to both English-speaking writers and authors whose work has been translated into English. The International Booker (not to be confused with the Booker Prize) was established in 2005 and is awarded once every two years. The award finalist receives a cash award of 60 thousand pounds, which is equivalent to 93 thousand dollars. So, Laszlo Krasnakhorkai became the sixth winner in history of one of the most prestigious international literary awards.

The Hungarian writer published his first work in 1977 and only 8 years later, together with the publication of the famous novel “Satanic Tango”, fame came to him. Krasnokhorkai mainly writes in the genre of anti-utopian parables about the grotesque existence of mankind. Usually his world is isolated and doomed to perdition.
