"Smile to us, Lord" - the premiere in the theater. Vakhtangov

MOSCOW. In the Theater. Vakhtangov March 6 pre-premiere screening of the new work of Rimas Tuminas. The play “Smile to us, Lord,” based on novels written by Grigory Kanovich, tells of two Jewish old men who went to Vilna.

The path is not easy, like the life of travelers, about the sad events of which they recall along the way. On their way, they called for the need to obtain information about the son of one of the travelers, implicated in the assassination attempt on the governor general. The audience was attended by representatives of the press and close friends of the theater.

After the performance, Tuminas told reporters that “Smile to us, Lord” was already delivered to them in Vilnius, but several leading artists passed away and there was no one to replace them. Twenty years have passed since Tuminas’s first appeal to the novels of Grigory Kanovich. Now this philosophical performance has appeared in the repertoire of the Vakhtangov Theater - on March 7, its official premiere took place.

Spectators who attended the premiere were already in the lobby waiting for the peace of the Jewish town. The foyer posted drawings by the artist Mark Kanovich, whose characters resemble the characters of the paintings of Marc Chagall. Only if Chagall has joyful characters, is the play filled with sadness. The whole path of the elderly, who went on a cart to the capital, is accompanied by a sad Jewish melody played on the violin.

On stage are the leading artists of the theater - S. Makovetsky and E. Knyazev, V. Simonov and A. Guskov, Yu. Rutberg and V. Dobronravov take part in the performance. To participate in the production, the director invited Viktor Sukhorukov. For the success of the performance, it was important that the director and actors have a common opinion about the works of Kanovich - this is a universal story, and not a story about the fate of one people. Values that do not have a nationality exist.
