The best film of the London film festival recognized the Russian drama "Leviathan"

LONDON. The main prize of the 58th annual film festival in London was received by the drama of the Russian director Andrei Zvyagintsev “Leviathan”. All members of the jury voted unanimously for the film. For a short period of time since the release of the screens (the premiere was held on May 23, 2014), Leviathan had already won the Munich Film Festival, received an award in Cannes and was nominated for an Oscar.

The jury unanimously noted the "original, bright and smart" nature of the tape. Jury Chairman Jeremy Thomas announced the winner: “We were fascinated by all 12 films nominated for the competition. We have admired many of the great stories. We unanimously want to award the award for the best film to Leviathan, shot by Andrey Zvyagintsev. The grandeur of the film and its theme touched us all equally. ”

Leviathan was previously awarded the Best Screenplay Prize at the Cannes Film Festival. Then the picture so impressed the judging panel that the rights to its rental in Canada and the USA were immediately acquired by Sony Classics. In September, Leviathan was selected from Russia as an Oscar contender. The film fulfilled all the requirements of the Russian Oscar Committee, now the tape is in the "long list" of the participants and it still has a qualifying round to the final short list of applicants for the Oscar.

The film has not yet been released to Russian distribution, its premiere was timed to coincide with the Oscar in February 2015. In the film "Leviathan" the main roles were played by Elena Lyadova, Vladimir Vdovichenko and Andrei Serebrennikov. The film became the fourth full-length film directed by Andrei Zvyagintsev. Earlier, he released the mystical parable “Return”, which received the main prize at the Venice festival, the drama “The Exile” and the socially sharp picture “Elena”.
