The name of the play “Hero of Our Time” appeared on the poster of the Bolshoi Theater, making friends of opera and ballet

MOSCOW. At the end of the season, the long-awaited premiere of “Hero of Our Time” appeared in the Bolshoi Theater repertoire. This production aroused great interest of critics and theater-goers even at the stage of her rehearsals, since Kirill Serebrennikov, a dramatic director who first worked with ballet dancers, became a participant in her birth.

For each of the team of directors, the work on the performance brought something new to his work. Kirill Serebryannikov for the first time in his directorial career poses ballet. Composer Ilya Demutsky for the first time created music intended for a ballet performance.

Choreographer Yuri Posokhov, has long been living in San Francisco, where he works on one-act, plotless productions. He deliberately returned to the capital to begin creating the plot ballet, tired of the monotonous work in San Francisco.

The work of a drama director at the Bolshoi Theater is no longer surprising. An interesting choice is Serebrennikov, who settled on the story of Lermontov. A choreographic version of “The Hero of Our Time” has not been created before.

In the director’s reading, Lermontov’s novel turned into three one-act ballets. In each of them, in the role of Pechorin, viewers see different ballet dancers, recognizable by their musical theme.

The background of Serebrennikov, as a dramatic director, changed the genre component of the production, turning it from a classical ballet into a performance where vocal parts are included. The director notes that in classical ballet, which is conservative in nature, this does not happen.

The production team decided to try to create a work combining ballet and opera. World champions among wheelchair dancers were invited to participate in the play. They took the stage in the roles of the heroes of the Caucasian war.
