At the Pokrovsky Chamber Music Theater Premiere of the unusual opera Titus the Impeccable

MOSCOW. For the first time in the world, the Pokrovsky Theater presented the opera Titus the Impeccable, based on the play by Mikhail Kurochkin, a Ukrainian playwright. The author is considered one of the notable playwrights of our time. This play was published in English in London, and its Russian text was published by Esquire magazine. In Moscow, the playwright’s work earned the Grand Prix of the New Drama festival, which took place in 2008.

The opera based on the play by M. Kurochkin was created by composer Alexander Manotskov, the director Vladimir Mirzoev worked on the play, and he is the author of the libretto. It is difficult to understand the complicated plot of an opera performance without the hints of the libretto printed in the program. The author of the play used the plot of Shakespeare’s drama “Tit Andronicus”.

This work of the English playwright is considered the bloodiest, since it has a huge number of harsh scenes. The Ukrainian playwright wrote his play, intertwining classics with modern anti-utopia. The opera takes place in the boundless future. After complete conquest by the Earthlings of the Universe, they find themselves in a dead end. Their world faces death.

To save the world, you need to turn to literature and art, where the recipe for saving the human world is encrypted. The astronaut, previously mercilessly destroying the rational life of galaxies, is now forced to go to the theater and get acquainted with literature. He is shown the opera Titus the Impeccable.

Not only the content, even the musical basis of the opera, is unusual for viewers who are more familiar with its classical versions. The composer created original characters, giving them the name "ensemble". For example, the party of one of such characters, bearing the name Clot, is performed in three voices. It is worth noting the skill of the performers and the original scenery of the performance.
