Works by Ivan Shishkin from the collection of the Russian Museum

From March 6 to June 29, 2025, the Zvenigorod Manege will host the exhibition "Ivan Shishkin. Master of Epic Landscape", dedicated to the work of one of the most outstanding masters of Russian realistic landscape. The exhibition will become a key event in the cultural life of Zvenigorod in 2025 and the third initiative implemented within the framework of the partnership between the State Russian Museum and the Zvenigorod Museum-Reserve.

The exhibition includes 40 works by Ivan Shishkin from the collection of the Russian Museum. The paintings will be arranged in chronological order: from the first completed canvases to the majestic landscapes of the late 1890s. This approach will reveal the features of the master’s artistic style and allow us to follow his creative path. In addition to the paintings, there will be a multimedia zone that will allow visitors to literally immerse themselves in the world of the great landscape artist.

The exhibition will provide a unique opportunity to get acquainted with Shishkin’s work in a special atmosphere. The canvases of one of the most important masters of Russian landscape painting and the modern museum space of the Zvenigorod Manege - this combination puts the exhibition on a par with the leading capital exhibition projects of this year.

“This will be a triumph of the epic forest landscape,” comments the exhibition’s curator Sergei Viktorovich Krivondenchenkov, a leading researcher at the Russian Museum and custodian of the painting collection from the second half of the 19th to the beginning of the 20th centuries.

Zvenigorod, surrounded by relict forests and picturesque landscapes, seems to have been created for such an exhibition. The historic Manege of the 19th century, a cultural heritage site, after restoration in 2023 became one of the best exhibition venues in the Moscow region. In the cozy space of the Manege, you can not only enjoy Shishkin’s outstanding works, but also spend time in comfort: there is a cafe, a recreation area and a souvenir shop. All this makes the exhibition an ideal destination for a cultural weekend trip.
