Exhibition of the Historical Museum in Sheremetyevo:
to the 460th anniversary of St. Basil’s Cathedral

The State Historical Museum and Sheremetyevo International Airport present to the attention of passengers and guests a photo exhibition dedicated to the Intercession Cathedral - the most famous symbol not only of Moscow, but of the whole of Russia.

On July 12, 2021, the cathedral turned 460 years old, it was built at the behest of Tsar Ivan IV the Terrible in 1555-1561. in memory of the victory over the Kazan Khanate. Today it is a functioning temple, a world famous museum (part of the State Historical Museum since 1928), one of the seven wonders of Russia, a UNESCO monument. Its original architecture, multi-colored chapters attract the eyes of thousands of tourists on Red Square.

The photo exhibition presents views of the interior decoration of the Intercession Cathedral, the color in the interiors is created thanks to monumental paintings, magnificent iconostases, a rich collection of icons and objects of applied art. In the temple, you can easily read the original architectural composition, complemented by wall paintings of different times. Imitation of brickwork of the 16th century. neighbors with plant compositions - paradise gardens of fantastic flowers that appeared in the next century. Images of saints and evangelical scenes are realities of the 18th – 19th centuries. Also preserved in the cathedral are magnificent examples of the neo-Russian style of the beginning of the last century. The decorativeness of the interiors is complemented by facade paintings.

The exposition is open on the second floor of Terminal D until December 15, 2021.

The State Historical Museum is the largest national museum in Russia, the collection of which most fully reflects its centuries-old history and culture from ancient times to the present day.
