An exhibition of artists of Veliky Novgorod is dedicated to the memorable dates of Russia

This year, Veliky Novgorod turned 1153, 150 years have passed since the opening of the Millennium of Russia monument, and 1,150 years have passed since the birth of statehood in Russia. The celebration of these remarkable dates in the history of Russia and Veliky Novgorod is dedicated to the exhibition, which opened on September 23 at the State Museum of Novgorod Land.

The exhibition is dedicated to the history of Veliky Novgorod, represented by paintings by famous artists, many of which, devoted to displaying the views of their beloved city on canvases, devoted most of their lives. The exhibition is divided into sections, each of which presents Veliky Novgorod at different times in its history.

At all times, the ancient city attracted the attention of painters. In Veliky Novgorod, painters from Moscow and St. Petersburg painted their canvases depicting the Kremlin and churches, historical events that took place within its walls became the subjects for famous paintings by artists of past centuries.

Here K. Petrov-Vodkin, N. Sychev, S. Gerasimov drew inspiration for their works. Even N. Roerich in his work addressed the theme of Novgorod land. Initially, only visiting masters worked in Veliky Novgorod, but from the middle of the last century, their own professionals appeared in the city. People’s artist Dmitry Zhuravlev was the founder of the modern school of painting in Veliky Novgorod. Now Novgorod artists of different generations successfully present their works at exhibitions of the largest museums.

The exhibition of the Novgorod Art Museum mainly represents the paintings of our contemporaries, which display the present and past of Veliky Novgorod. The exposition dedicated to the anniversary dates can be viewed until October 28th.
