Spanish painting at an exhibition in the Museum-Reserve of Veliky Novgorod

VELIKIY NOVGOROD. On November 12, an exhibition of Spanish art delivered from the Hermitage inaugurated in the exhibition halls of the Novgorod Museum-Reserve. The exposition of the exhibition includes 140 rare exhibits made in various techniques.

Visitors to the exhibition will see 27 paintings, among which are works by Claudio Coelho and Diego Velazquez. The exposition presents the works of the great Francesco Goya - 36 graphic sheets included in the well-known cycle "Caprichos".

In addition to paintings and graphic works, visitors to the exhibition will be able to get acquainted with the collection of works by Spanish gunsmiths and appreciate the work performed by Spanish craftsmen in the field of decorative and applied art.

The collection of Spanish paintings, stored in the walls of the Hermitage, is the largest of those that exist outside of Spain. The largest number of unique paintings by Spanish painters belongs to the 17th century. Experts speak of this century as the “golden age” of Spanish art.

The Novgorod Museum-Reserve, which is one of the largest Russian museums, has been closely cooperating with the State Hermitage Museum for 12 years. Over the years, Hermitage specialists held 11 exhibitions in Veliky Novgorod, at which rarities from their collections were presented.

Museum workers of Veliky Novgorod did not remain in debt. In 2011, an exhibition was held in the Hermitage, where a collection of monuments of ancient Russian painting was presented, which included birch bark letters of the Middle Ages found in Veliky Novgorod.

After the opening of the exhibition, a concert of Spanish music was held in the museum lecture hall.

The exhibition, which arrived from the Hermitage, will be open until February 9th.
