Michel Fermo’s play “Doors Slam” turned Semyon Serzin into “Dreamers”

ST. PETERSBURG. The premiere of the play “Dreamers”, staged by the young director Semyon Serzin based on the famous play by French author Michel Fermot “Doors Slam,” was shown to the audience by the Comedy Theater named after Akimova. For a novice director, a recent graduate of the theater academy, the play was the first work on the academic stage in St. Petersburg.

However, in the creative baggage of Semyon Serzin there are already two large works. One of them was the performance "Potudan" staged with the recent graduates of the Theater Academy at the Etude Theater, based on Platonov’s prose. In the famous academic drama theater of Yaroslavl, Serzin recently completed the production of the play “Viy”.

When the young director was asked about the reason for choosing this play for the production, he said that the work was offered by the theater, and he, despite the forty-year history of this play, saw that it was still modern, because the problems identified in it relevant to this day.

The play has a lot of music, a lot of comic situations, remarkably beaten by the actors, but the topic is raised extremely seriously - which causes the transformation of young heroes who have dreams and aspirations into ordinary people indifferent to the world around them. The topic of alienation of generations now began to sound even sharper than in the seventies, when the play was written. Therefore, although this is a lyrical comedy, staged even with some mischief, the director indicates in it very serious issues.

The spectators were especially enthusiastic about the game of “grandmother”, who has been working in the theater since 1956 by the People’s Artist of Russia Vera Karpova, who created a surprisingly picturesque image of her heroine, captivating everyone with her temperamental performance.
