Yekaterinburg Youth Theater presented the premiere performance "Lonely West" based on the play by Martin McDonagh

YEKATERINBURG. Performances based on the plays of McDonagh, a famous playwright of Irish descent, are popular all over the world. Russian directors also turn to them. However, in the repertoire of the Yekaterinburg theaters, the work of Martin McDonagh is represented by only two performances - in the theater “Volkhonka” you can see “Pillow Man” and “One-armed from Spokane”.

Earlier in the Youth Theater there was also its “Pillow Man”, staged in 2008 by Oleg Goetze. “Theater behind a concrete wall” was the name of the project in which the play was born. Yekaterinburg viewers regret it today even today. On December 1, the repertoire of the Youth Theater reappeared a performance representing the work of McDonagh.

The audience was shown the premiere of the play “Lonely West”, staged by the director from St. Petersburg Semyon Serzin. Yekaterinburg theatergoers Semyon Serzin is known for directing the acclaimed play “SashBash. Sverdlovsk - Leningrad… " The director himself chose the play for staging in the Youth Theater.

Spectators who visited the theater’s performances at the Bridge, where McDonagh’s plays occupy an honorable place in the repertoire, are accustomed to the gloomy manner in which they are staged. In the Perm Theater they show, described by the playwright, the gloomy, ugly life of the Irish province, the rude speech of local residents. In Yekaterinburg Youth Theater show another McDonagh.

Although the morals of the heroes of the “Lonely West” are far from ideal (the performance has an age limit). The events taking place in the play end in tragedy, however, the images of the Connor brothers and the priest, acting as their nanny, constantly cause laughter in the hall.

With this play, McDonagh completed the trilogy, which included “The Skull of Connemara” and the equally popular “Queen of Beauty”.
