Artists of the Maly Theater showed two magnificent performances to Kursk spectators

KURSK. The performance "Vassa Zheleznova" June 14 began in Kursk tour of the Maly Theater. This play, staged by director Vladimir Beilis, the artists of the troupe first presented outside the capital. The staging of the famous play by Gorky was already previously in the repertoire of the Maly Theater. Sixty years ago, the premiere of “Vassa Zheleznova”, staged by director Konstantin Zubov in collaboration with the artist Evgeny Velikhov, took place.

The main role was brilliantly performed by Vera Pashennaya. For the production, the second version of the play, written by Gorky in 1935, was used. The performance turned out to be so successful that soon its screen version appeared on the screens. However, the audience then reacted to this tragic performance as a story typical of the “dark past”, finding no connection with their life.

To create a new performance, which premiered in the spring of 2016, Vladimir Beilis turned to the first version of Vassa Zheleznova, written by Gorky a quarter of a century earlier, in 1910. If the conflict in the second version of the play was born out of the class struggle, then initially “Vassa Zheleznova” was devoid of ideological coloring. In this form, the play became much tougher and more honest, which made it closer to modern audiences.

The story of the tragedy of a person who believed in the ability of money to solve all problems is close to the audience. The events that took place a century earlier turned into modern history. To understand the tragedy of the main character of the play, the audience is helped by the performer of her role - Lyudmila Titova, People’s Artist of Russia. The performance was shown to Kursk spectators in the evening of June 15.

The tour ended with the play “Power of Darkness” staged by Yuri Solomin. The main roles in the play of Leo Tolstoy were performed by Irina Muravyova and Vladimir Nosik.
